Serious question, why are so many binge shows using time jumps now?

I've noticed a lot of recent series use time jumps between seasons or even within episodes. It keeps the plot moving fast and avoids slow buildup. For example, that sci-fi show on Netflix last month skipped five years after the first season finale. It made the second season feel fresh and urgent, perfect for binging.

Lol, guess the writers got bored with actual storytelling.

Ever feel like some shows just lose their way after a few seasons? I get what you mean, @calebperez, it's annoying when the plot gets messy. What helped me was focusing on the characters I still cared about. Even if the story gets weird, seeing how they grow can make it worth watching. I stuck with one show last year that went off the rails, but the main character's journey kept me hooked. Maybe try that, or just drop it if it's not fun anymore, you know?

Totally, and @calebperez is right about writers losing the plot with those jumps.
