I finally tried a coal forge after 5 years of using propane
The extra heat control from the coal let me draw out a 2-inch bar for a gate hinge in half the time, but is the extra cleanup worth it for smaller projects?

Funny how that works, the extra effort for the right tool. I mean, you see it everywhere, like hand grinding coffee versus a machine. For small stuff, maybe the propane is fine, but when you really need that control, you just deal with the mess after. Kinda depends how often you're making hinges versus smaller things.

But is it ever that deep, really?
