I did a gig poster for a show in Akron back in March and I was really proud of it. Bright orange and lime green, big bold clash, felt loud and fun. The guy running the print shop took one look and asked if I'd ever seen a gas station hot dog spinning on one of those rollers, because that's what my colors felt like to him. I was annoyed for like a day. Then I pulled it up on my old cracked phone and realized the whole thing turned into a muddy brown smear at small size. That was the kicker. I changed my whole routine after that. Now I drop every wild combo onto my cheap backup phone or print a tiny thumbnail before I commit to it. If it still hits you in the face at 2 inches wide, it's a real clash. If it just blends into mush, it's not. So how do you all test your loud color choices before the client ever sees them?
