My book club used to fight over picking books, but after a huge blow-up over 'Moby-Dick' in March, we switched to a rotating host system where each person brings three options from a genre they pick.

So, what's your group's method for avoiding those 'I'm not reading that' standoffs?

Why not apply that same rotation to choosing a restaurant?

Actually, I used to push for a straight vote on every book. The rotating host idea seemed like it would just make people pick weird stuff. But seeing how it gives everyone a turn to share what they love has really worked. It cuts down the complaints because you know your own month is coming up. That little bit of structure saved our club from falling apart.
