A guy at the bindery in Tulsa told me thread count matters more than paper weight. Do you agree?
I was at a bindery supply shop in Tulsa and the owner told me he sells 4x more 18/3 linen thread than 12/3, even for big art books. He said most people overbuild the paper but cheap out on thread, and the spine fails at the sewing, not the paper. So now I am wondering if I have been wasting money on heavy paper all along and ignoring the thread. But part of me thinks it depends on the book and how it gets used. Where do you stand, thread or paper, and what thread size do you actually reach for?
