That simple wheat paste recipe totally flipped my thinking

I was always one of those people who bought premade PVA and called it a day. Then a guy named Pete at a restoration workshop in Portland told me he uses 1 part flour to 4 parts water with a little sugar for flexibility. He showed me a book from 1820 that still had tight joints because of that exact mix. Now I'm wondering what else I've been overcomplicating in the shop. Anyone else ditch store-bought glue for something homemade?

Honestly I switched to a 3:1 water to flour mix for paper mache projects and never looked back. Tbh store bought glue feels like a ripoff now.

@cole_mitchell57 how long does that mix keep before it goes bad?
