I finally looked up how many types of oak trees are native to my state

I was reading a local nature guide from the library and it said there are only 3 native oak species here in Oregon, which felt way too low. I always thought we had a dozen at least, given how many oaks I see on hikes. Has anyone else had a plant fact from their own area just feel wrong?

That guide might be counting only the big, classic ones and ignoring scrub oaks. Those still count.

Scrub oaks count? That changes everything. I was going off the old field guide that only lists maybe six types. If you start adding in all the scrub varieties, we're talking about twenty easy.
