Rant: houseplant influencers pushing moss poles on every single plant are setting new growers up to fail
I spent four hours last Saturday repotting 12 plants at my kitchen table in Sacramento and three of them had root rot because the moss pole held water against the stem way too long. I followed a video from a grower with 400k followers who said monsteras and pothos both "need" a pole, and my pothos hated it while the monstera did fine. Here is the thing: a $6 trellis or a plain stake does the same job and lets air move around the stem, which is what actually matters. Moss poles are not evil, but telling every new plant owner they are required is lazy advice that costs people plants. What has actually worked for your climbing plants without turning the stem into a wet sponge?
