Paid a designer $500 for a logo that looked just like a big brand's mark
I hired someone on a freelance site last month to make a logo for my small coffee cart. Got the files, thought it looked cool, then a friend pointed out it was basically the Starbucks siren but with a coffee bean instead of a crown. I'm out the cash and have to start over. Anyone know a good way to check for logo copies before you pay?

That really sucks, but checking after you pay is too late. You need to do a reverse image search before you approve the final design. Google Images or TinEye can find matches. Also, just searching for "coffee logo" plus words like "siren" or "mermaid" would have shown the Starbucks one right away. Always ask the designer for their sketches and the story behind the design to see if they actually made it from scratch.

Yeah, that's a rough way to find out. Good tips from @faith_smith about checking before you pay. I'd be so mad if that happened to me.
