Broke my only good knife on a $5 bag of potatoes last week

I was prepping for a batch of chili at home, using my 8-inch chef's knife I got from a restaurant supply store in Austin for $35. Tried to slice through a big russet potato and the tip just snapped off clean. Now I'm debating if I should spend $60 on a Victorinox to replace it or just get another cheap one for $15 and baby it more. What do you all do when a tool you rely on for budget cooking fails?

Wait, the tip just snapped off? That's wild. I'd go with what the_sage said, get the Victorinox.

Man, that's the worst feeling... especially over a bag of potatoes that probably cost less than the knife itself. Same thing happened to me with a cheapo knife from Target, tip snapped off while I was trying to cut through a butternut squash. I ended up getting a Victorinox and honestly it's been way tougher, I've put it through a lot without any issues. Just sucks when you're trying to save money and the tools you buy end up costing you more in the long run.
