Question about using dried beans versus canned for chili
My friend swore canned beans were cheaper, but I tracked costs for a month. A bag of dried pinto beans makes way more for half the price, you just have to plan ahead. Anyone have a good quick-soak method that doesn't take all day?

I read that soaking beans with a little baking soda helps soften them faster.

Oh man, your friend is living in the moment, but you're playing the long game lol. That quick soak method is solid, but honestly I just chuck the dried beans in a big pot of water before I go to bed. Wake up, drain them, and they're ready to cook. It's zero effort and you get that perfect texture for chili.

Wait, you tracked costs for a whole month? That's some dedication. I mean, your friend is kinda right on the upfront price of a single can, but you nailed it on the total yield. A one pound bag of dried is like three cans worth of beans, easy. For a quick soak, I just boil them for two minutes, then take the pot off the heat and let it sit covered for an hour. Works every time.
