Saw a guy at the farmers market turn old carrot peels into stock for $0.50 a batch

He was just simmering them with onion skins and garlic ends in a big pot and now Ive saved like $8 this week alone on broth, anyone else do this or am I late to the party?

not sure saving eight bucks a week is worth that much simmering but you do you

Honestly, I was late to it too, but once I started saving veggie scraps in a bag in the freezer it got way easier. The trick is to just toss stuff in a bag as you cook (carrot tops, celery leaves, even mushroom stems) and then boil it all at once on a weekend. I use my stock for rice and soups mostly, and it makes everything taste a little richer without buying the boxed stuff. Plus it feels good using up stuff I’d normally throw out, you know?
