I thought a 4am bus to the airport was a genius money saver until I had to pay for a taxi after missing it.
I saved $60 on the flight but the $45 cab to catch a later one, plus the pure panic, taught me that the cheapest option isn't always the cheapest overall, so what's your rule for judging when a 'hack' is actually worth the risk?

Ugh, I used to chase every cheap deal. A missed train with all my luggage last year finally fixed that for me.
