Appreciation post: Our team in Chicago fought for a single button component last month, and everyone said we were overthinking it.

My cousin saved three hours last week doing it that way.

I thought a 4am bus to the airport was a genius money saver until I had to pay for a taxi after missing it.

Remember my cheap tent that flooded in a thunderstorm.

Met a guy at a Memphis comp who swore by wrapping his brisket in butcher paper, not foil

Foil braises, paper breathes" is such a perfect way to put it. I tried the switch last summer and my bark got way better, way less soggy. That guy knew what he was talking about.

Update: My old studio had a flat roof and I didn't think it mattered.

Check the local building codes first, they often list a minimum pitch for snow load areas. Most people forget about the roof underlayment when adding slope, a cheap felt paper won't cut it with the new angles. You need a high-temp ice and water shield for the whole thing, not just the edges, to prevent leaks from ice dams. A 3/12 pitch is usually the sweet spot, it sheds snow but won't make your ceiling feel like a low attic.

Tbh, my old way of booking hostels versus using a local guesthouse in Lisbon last year was a total game changer

Got to be honest, my experience was the total opposite. Stayed in a local guesthouse in Porto and it felt way more lonely and disconnected than any hostel I've ever booked. Hostels have that built-in common area where you actually meet people without trying. The guesthouse was just a quiet room with zero chance to talk to anyone. For a solo traveler, that setup was a real step back.
