My hotel booking mistake in Chicago cost me $200 extra

I always booked hotels for the whole week, thinking it was the only way. Last month in Chicago, I checked the rate for my last two nights separately and it was $100 less per night. The front desk guy said weekend rates drop when business travelers leave. Anyone have a good site for checking split bookings like that?

Check split rates on Kayak, they have a flexible dates tool. Sounds like you and @the_viola both learned the hard way.

Yeah, @troycarter, that kind of thing really sticks with you... like the time I tried to fix a leaky faucet myself to save money. Ended up flooding the whole kitchen floor because I didn't turn the main water off first. The cleanup took all weekend and cost way more than a plumber would have. Some lessons just come with a big mess attached.
