Ugh, absolutely agreed, Gibson - mine were a complete mess that wasted hours too.

Honestly, just walk more. Those little local buses and trams are a trap for tourists. You see way more of a city on foot anyway, and your wallet stays thicker. The best transport hack is using your own legs for anything under a thirty minute stroll. Saves you from trying to figure out ticket machines in a language you don't know.
