Skip the hotel breakfast buffet, hit the grocery store instead

I used to pay $15 for a sad hotel breakfast in Nashville, then grab snacks at tourist traps all day. Last trip I walked two blocks to a Kroger and grabbed yogurt, fruit, and a bagel for under $6. That small habit cut my daily food costs by almost two thirds. Do you guys scope out local grocery stores when you travel, or is that too much of a hassle for a quick trip?

Kroger runs are my move too, but I level it up by grabbing a rotisserie chicken and some bread for lunch or dinner later, saves me from overpriced airport sandwiches.
