Used to book hotels on Expedia but now I just call the front desk direct

For years I always used Expedia for hotels because I thought I was getting a deal. Then last summer in Nashville I booked a room for $120 a night and the guy at the front desk told me if I called them direct it wouldve been $89. Now I check the hotel's own website or just call them, saved me like $40 a night on a trip to Savannah last month. Anybody else have luck haggling with hotels over the phone?

lol okay but like how much time are we really saving here. Calling up a hotel and trying to haggle sounds like a whole thing, especially if you're booking multiple rooms or something. Expedia takes 2 minutes and shows you everything at once, I don't want to be on the phone with some front desk person trying to get them to knock off $20. Plus half the time the direct price isn't even that different unless you're staying at a random motel, not everyone wants to play phone tag with hotels lmao.

Right? Like who has time to negotiate a hotel room like it's a used car. Unless you're trying to book Motel 6 for a month, the savings are probably like, the price of a coffee.
