My grocery bill was insane until I started doing this one thing

I used to just wander the store and grab whatever looked good, and my bill for two people was hitting like $180 every single time. About three months ago I got fed up and started planning meals around the weekly flyer for my local Kroger. Now I make a list based on what's on sale, and I stick to it no matter what. My last trip was only $112, and we still ate just as well. It feels so obvious now, but it took seeing that number every week to finally make me change. Anyone else have a simple switch that actually saved a ton of money?

How did it take me so long to figure this out too? I was basically just donating money to the snack aisle every week. My big move was finally checking the unit price on stuff, which made me feel like a genius and also a huge dummy for all the years I didn't. Turns out the big box of cereal is almost always cheaper per ounce, who knew.

Ugh, but that sounds like so much work though. I'd rather just grab what I want and be done with it. Life's too short to study grocery flyers.

Why waste your life on a grocery list?

Check the unit price, @paigewood, it takes two seconds and saves real money.
