A tile guy in Phoenix told me my grout lines were 1/16 off and it bugged me for weeks
I was at a home show in Phoenix back in March watching a tile guy lay a mosaic backsplash, and he pointed at my phone screen where I had a pic of my own kitchen job from 2023, and he said one grout line was 1/16 off from the rest. I went home and measured every joint with a caliper, and he was right, so now I snap chalk lines and check spacing every 3 rows instead of just eyeballing it. How do you all keep long runs of tile straight without losing your mind on the layout?
Man, chasing 1/16 of an inch with a caliper will drive you crazy for zero payoff. Grout lines that tight only matter to the eye if they're off by a lot more than that, and once the grout is in and the room is furnished nobody on earth is spotting a hair off. I've seen guys burn whole days snapping lines every three rows and rechecking, and their job ends up looking the same as the guy who just laid it clean and kept his eye on the far wall. Honestly the tile guy at the home show was just showing off, and you let him get in your head over nothing.
