Dropped $85 on a "designer" font family and every letter has the same width problem
I bought a font pack last month for a client logo project and it looked great in the previews. Turns out the lowercase e and a are basically identical at small sizes, so the wordmark looked blurry on a business card proof. My client in Cleveland asked if my printer was broken, which stung. Has anyone else run into a font that only works big, or am I just picking the wrong ones?
My buddy Dave bought a script font for like 60 bucks for a coffee shop logo, and it looked sharp on his monitor but turned into mush at 2 inches wide on the actual sign. The thin strokes just vanished once it got scaled down, so the shop name read like a smudge from across the street. He ended up going back to a plain bold font and ate the cost. Turns out a lot of these fonts get tested at big sizes only, so the small stuff never gets checked. You are not picking wrong, the fonts are just built for one size. Next time print a test card at the real size before you buy.
