Hot take: chain link layout beats grid for my shop's site nav
Spent two nights in my garage messing with CSS grid for a 6 item menu and it kept overflowing on a 13 inch laptop, but plain old flexbox handled it in ten minutes. Anyone else find grid fights back more than flex when you just need simple rows?
Flexbox just works for a single row of links and grid feels like it wants to control both directions whether you asked for that or not. I ran into the same thing last month trying to do a simple 5 link header and grid kept wrapping items onto a second line when the window got narrow, took forever to figure out the minmax settings. Switched to display flex with some gap and flex-wrap and it was done in like five minutes. Grid is great when you actually need rows and columns together but for one nav bar it's way more setup than the job needs.
