I built my router table out of MDF last weekend, but now I'm wishing I used plywood instead
I had two sheets of 3/4 inch material sitting in the garage, a $38 sheet of birch ply and a $22 sheet of MDF. I picked the MDF because it was flatter and cheaper, and honestly the top came out dead smooth. But after two days in my humid garage here in Jacksonville, the edges swelled up like a sponge and one corner is already out of whack by about 1/16 inch. I'm thinking about routing a rabbet and dropping in a plywood frame to save it, but I don't know if that's worth the hassle. Has anyone here rescued a swelled MDF top, or should I just eat the loss and start over?
