Rant: I hit 400 layers in my tile floor design and my back is filing a complaint
So I've been working on this master bath remodel in my house for the past 7 weeks, and I decided to go with a herringbone pattern for the floor. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. I mapped out the layout in my head at 6am on a Saturday and figured maybe 100 cuts total. Then I started actually laying it out on the subfloor with spacers and chalk lines, and the count just kept going up. Tile saw, sponge, repeat. By the time I finished dry fitting the whole room, I had made 400 individual cuts, and I only have a 9 by 11 bathroom. My knees are shot, my back hates me, and I still have to do the grout. The part that really got me is that my neighbor walked in, looked at it for 10 seconds, and said 'oh, that's nice' like I hadn't just given up a month of weekends. Has anyone else gone way overboard on a layout pattern and had it actually be worth it, or should I have just done a simple grid and saved my sanity?
