Was dead set against using reclaimed wood until I saw it in person

I walked into this coffee shop in Denver last month and the whole bar was made from old barn wood. I thought it would look all splintery and mismatched but it actually had this smooth, warm feel with the grain really popping. The owner told me they paid a guy $800 to salvage and plane it down, which honestly sounds fair for the look. Now I'm rethinking my whole kitchen backsplash plan, has anyone else had a change of heart after seeing something in a real space?

oh totally @noahw53, it's like pictures just lie to you about everything (kind of like dating app photos, not that I'm bitter or anything). I was so ready to hate on reclaimed wood because I kept seeing these instagram posts of perfectly distressed barn doors that looked like they belonged in a hipster museum. then I walked into a buddy's place with a reclaimed wood accent wall and it was actually gorgeous, way nicer than any of the painted drywall I'd been planning. makes you wonder how many other things we're wrong about just from looking at screens all day, you know?

Man it's wild how much different stuff looks in person versus pictures, totally get that change of heart. Had the same thing happen with a butcher block counter I was ready to hate until I saw one at a friend's place.
