Pro tip: The coffee shop bullet journal hack that actually works for me

I was sitting at a local place called Brew & Bloom downtown last Tuesday waiting for my kid's art class to finish. This barista had this beat up looking notebook on the counter, just scribbling in it between orders. I asked her about it and she showed me how she uses a simple monthly log with just three columns - task, done, and notes. No fancy spreads, no color codes, no washi tape. Just pen and paper. I tried copying that setup for my weekly chores and errands and it's way faster than my old system where I spent more time decorating than actually writing stuff down. Has anyone else found something simpler that changed how you do your bujo?

The three column thing sounds like it would work for someone who already has their life pretty well sorted. My problem is I need to actually see what needs doing, not just check boxes after the fact. I tried the minimal approach and ended up forgetting half my stuff because there was no visual reminder of what was coming up. I still use color coding but its just three highlighters for categories. Kids activities get yellow, bills get pink, household stuff gets blue. No drawings or stickers involved, just functional color so my brain actually registers the info. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Oh man, the three highlighter system is basically the same setup I landed on too. But here's what I'm wondering - do you ever find yourself ignoring certain colors when you're in a hurry? Like I notice I'll skip over the pink bills highlight if I'm already dreading opening that envelope, and then suddenly it's late. How do you keep yourself from tuning out the colors when the task is something you really don't want to look at?
