Showerthought: minimalist spreads vs artistic layouts in bullet journals

I was at a coffee shop in Portland last week and saw two people bullet journaling at different tables. One had these crazy colorful drawings, stickers everywhere. The other was just black pen, straight lines, dates. Got me thinking. Does all that art stuff actually help you stay organized or is it just for show? I lean towards simple but I wonder if the creative types get more done.

Read somewhere that art types stick with it longer because decorating makes it feel less like a chore.

Ask @joel280 if by "decorating" they mean like making the space pretty, or more like picking tools and setting up the workflow to be less annoying? Cause those seem like very different kinds of sticking power to me.
