Vent: I saw a bullet journal display at a craft fair in Austin and it was all about the art, not the system

I was at the East Austin Studio Tour last weekend and one booth had a huge display of bullet journals. Every single one was a work of art, with perfect watercolor spreads and intricate lettering. The artist selling them said they take about 10 hours per weekly layout to make. In my experience, that kind of pressure to make it pretty is what made me quit my first journal. It felt like the actual point of tracking tasks and events was totally lost. Has anyone else felt pushed away from the system because of the focus on perfect aesthetics instead of function?

Totally thought that was the point until mine got messy.

Yeah, it's like the fancy version takes over and the real use gets lost. I see it with everything now, not just journals. People buy these perfect tool kits for a hobby but they're scared to actually use the tools and scratch them. When did having the right look become more important than doing the thing?
