Hit 347 color combinations in my style guide and realized I never checked them for colorblind issues

Hold on though, didn't those green-on-green buttons actually work fine for the other 90% of your users who aren't colorblind? You added icons and boosted contrast for a small minority, but now the whole interface is visually cluttered and harder to scan for everyone else. If the original design was clean and consistent for the vast majority, maybe you just overcorrected instead of leaving well enough alone.

Just realized my apprentice was right about the 3-way switch in that Seattle kitchen

Wait, you spent a full hour on it? Man, that's brutal. I would have caved and checked after like ten minutes of nothing working. It's always the simple stuff that gets you, like a loose neutral on a outlet you just replaced. Makes you feel kinda silly, doesn't it?

Overheard a manager in Phoenix say 'We hire for skills, but we fire for attitude'

But what if the work is the only thing that matters? I mean, @briannguyen, on a delivery job, a fast driver who gets every package right but is grumpy is still way better than a nice, slow one who messes up addresses. Sometimes you just need the job done right, even if the person is hard to be around.

I always thought you had to use a ton of heat to get a good weld on thick plate.

That trailer hitch story hits home, but the metal isn't really "tired." It's more about the grain structure getting too big from the extra heat, like Rowan said. You end up with a weak spot right next to the weld that can't handle stress. It's why procedures for high-strength steel call for such low heat input. Did your boss ever show you the before and after on a piece you overheated?

PSA: Heard a guy at the camera swap meet say 'if it's digital, just toss it and buy new'

Yeah, my buddy had a lens error on his old Nikon and the shop just cleaned the contacts for twenty bucks. It's like what robinson.reese said, people forget these things are just machines with parts that can wear out. What's the weirdest fix you've seen that saved a camera from the trash?
