Appreciation post: The old guy at the Portland farmers market who said 'you're selling the story, not just the steak'
He watched me cut a ribeye for a good five minutes before leaning over my counter and telling me I should explain the marbling and the dry-aging process to every single customer. Anyone else get a piece of advice that changed how you talk to people about your work?

An old baker told me once that people buy the morning, not just the bread. He meant the smell, the warmth, the idea of a fresh start. I started talking about how the dough rests overnight and the oven heat gives that crust. It sounds simple but it makes a real difference. Customers connect with the process, not just the product in the bag.

People buy the morning" is such a perfect way to put it.
