My uncle worked at a Ford plant for 12 years and he said the same thing about door handles. They tested like 40 different spring weights because if it felt too light people thought the door was cheap. The screen stuff was mostly figured out by the software team, but the touch points were where they spent all their time. Makes sense when you think about how often you actually grab a knob versus stare at a screen.
