Hot take: I swapped my mechanical switches to silent ones and it actually ruined my typing
Last month I put silent reds in my daily driver board because my roommate kept complaining through the wall in our Denver apartment. Within a week my typing speed dropped from around 95 words per minute to 78, and I kept missing keys I never missed before. Turns out the soft thud gave me zero feedback, so my fingers had no idea when a press actually landed and I was second guessing every stroke. I lasted 11 days before I yanked them all out and went back to clicky blues, roommate be damned. Anyone else found that a quieter switch made them worse at typing, or did you just adapt after a while?
My buddy did the same thing last year and had a very similar meltdown. He went from browns to silent blacks thinking his wife would finally stop giving him the side eye during late night gaming sessions. About two weeks in he starts complaining that he cant tell if he actually hit the key or just tapped the desk next to it. His fix was weird though, he put o rings on them and cranked up the actuation force which honestly sounds like a nightmare to type on. He still swears by them now but I caught him on his old board last week when he thought nobody was looking. Some people just need that clicky chaos to know their fingers are doing the right thing.
