Guy at the flea market in Tucson told me to stop using glossy paper under my pin art, wish I'd listened sooner
I was at the Tucson flea market two weeks ago selling off some old comic books and this older guy at the booth next to me had a whole table of vintage band pins. We got to talking and he asked what I press my buttons on, and when I said I print my art on glossy photo paper he shook his head and said "that shine fights your art, you want matte, always matte." I brushed it off at first because I'd been using glossy for like 2 years and never had a complaint, but then he pulled out two of the same design he'd made, one glossy and one matte, and the matte one just looked richer, the colors sat deeper, and there was zero glare when you tilted it. So last weekend I re-pressed 50 buttons of my best selling design on matte and the difference at my Saturday market booth was nuts, I sold 22 of them in 4 hours versus the usual 8 or 9. The matte paper cost me about $3 more per pack but it doesn't smudge as bad either when I'm handling them right after pressing. Now I'm wondering what other little habits I've been holding onto just because they worked okay. Anyone else make the glossy to matte switch and notice the same thing, or is it just the lighting at my market?
