Honestly, my $500 digital moisture meter saved a huge custom job from disaster

I was about to start building a walnut entertainment unit for a client, and the wood felt fine to the touch. The meter showed the stock was at 18% moisture, way too high for interior work. Has anyone else caught a major problem like this before cutting?

Caught a warped slab the same way, right?

Yeah, the real problem is the glue. If the slab wasn't flat when you glued it, even clamping it down won't fix the internal stress. Saw it happen with a maple countertop. Guy glued up three pieces that were all slightly bowed, and the whole thing twisted like a pretzel a week later. You have to joint the edges perfectly flat before you even think about bringing out the clamps.
