Hot take: I saw a guy in Tacoma use a router sled for a slab and it blew my mind
I was at the Northwest Woodworking Show last month and watched a guy flatten a huge walnut slab with a simple homemade router sled. He had it set up on some basic sawhorses and just kept making passes. I always thought you needed a giant planer or a CNC for that kind of work, but his result was glass smooth. Anyone else switch to a sled after seeing it done live?

Router sleds are total game changers. Built one after seeing a video and it works way better than I expected. Saves so much money over a big planer.

Hold up, you're saving money but wasting hours. Router sleds are painfully slow and make a huge mess with all that sawdust. For flattening one big slab, maybe, but for regular work? A used lunchbox planer gets you done in minutes, not days.
