I finally switched from a regular jig to a Kreg pocket hole jig for face frames
For years I just used a simple block of wood and a drill guide, but I kept getting slight gaps on my maple frames. Last month I picked up the Kreg 320 model and the difference is crazy. The built in clamp holds everything tight and the stepped drill bit makes a perfect hole every time. Has anyone else found a better way to keep those joints looking clean?

Buddy of mine tried that, still got gaps until he switched to a self centering bit.

Actually, that's the same thing.

Read an article a while back that said the bit needs to be perfectly sharp to avoid walking. A dull bit will drift no matter what kind it is. That might explain why some people still have trouble even with the right tools. Proper technique and a fresh bit seem to make the biggest difference.
