Had a coax line snap clean in half on a cold call yesterday

It was at a house in Springfield, the old RG-59 line was brittle from sun damage. I was just giving it a gentle tug to check the slack and it popped right at the fitting. Had to run a whole new drop from the pole, which took about an hour and a half. Anyone have a good trick for spotting that kind of dry rot before you put your hands on it?

Reminds me of my cousin's old car. The thing would stall if you even thought about rain. One time a light drizzle started and the engine just quit at a stop sign. We had to push it three blocks home in a mist so fine it was barely water. Felt like the car had a personal grudge against humidity.
