Had a coax splitter fail on a job in Tacoma last Tuesday
I was finishing up a triple play install in a split level house. The main line tested fine, but the signal dropped completely at the living room outlet. I traced it back to a cheap 4-way splitter in the crawl space that had water damage from a slow drip. I swapped it out for a weatherproof model and sealed the entry point. Anyone run into this kind of hidden failure before?

Classic crawl space find. I always keep a few weatherproof splitters in the van now, saves a trip back to the shop.

That kind of hidden failure is everywhere once you start looking. The cheap plastic clip inside a cabinet door that finally snaps, or the tiny rubber washer in a faucet that slowly starts to drip. It's always the part you don't see and never think about that causes the whole system to stop working right. Makes you wonder what else is about to go.
