Rant: Everyone says Kirby Morgan helmets are bulletproof but mine failed me last month

On a job off New Bedford harbor, my MK-17 started free-flowing during a weld inspection at 40 feet. I had less than 30 seconds to switch to my bailout. The guys on the boat said I must have bumped the knob, but I've been careful with this gear for two years. I think the valve just stuck. Anyone else had a reg fail on a Morgan like that?

That cheap spray foam can I picked up at the hardware store in Tucson actually worked way better than I thought

I was super skeptical about it holding up in the summer heat out here, but it sealed a gap around my garage door frame and it's been solid for 3 months now. Anybody tried it for bigger projects or does it just fall apart eventually?

Just found out the hard way that old brake fluid eats through paint

Was bleeding the brakes on a 2002 F-150 last Saturday and a couple drops of Dot 3 hit the fender. Didn't think much of it until I wiped it down and saw the clear coat had bubbled up. Now I'm stuck wet sanding and buffing a 6 inch section. Anyone got a trick for catching drips better than just draping a rag over everything?

Pro tip: stacking DSLR shots through a free stacking program finally got me clear nebula photos

I spent like 6 months trying to get a decent photo of the Orion Nebula (you know, the one everyone posts). My single shots always came out grainy and blurry no matter how much I messed with my tripod settings. Last week I tried using DeepSkyStacker, which is totally free, to stack maybe 30 of my worst frames together. The final image actually showed the nebula's color and shape instead of just a fuzzy blob. It's not professional grade or anything, but it's way better than what I was getting before. Has anyone else had a big jump in quality just from stacking instead of buying new gear?

Shoutout to the forum post that made me scrap my outline completely

I spent 3 days building this fantasy plot outline with 7 acts and a full magic system. Then I read a post here about how the best stories come from character decisions, not plot mechanics. It hit me that my protagonist was just reacting to events I set up. So I deleted the whole thing and started with just a character who wants something simple. Has anyone else trashed a bunch of work after a single insight from this community?

Seasoned hand told me to stop fighting the steel on a big weld

I was out in Corpus Christi last month on a tank job and an old timer named Hank watched me fight a root pass for like 20 minutes. Finally he just said 'son the steel is gonna do what it wants, you gotta dance with it not tackle it.' I switched to a lighter touch and started letting the puddle run natural instead of forcing it. Anyone else get a piece of advice that seemed simple but totally changed how you work?

Just found out my 'digital painting' was saving at 72 DPI this whole time

I was messing with export settings in Procreate last night, getting ready for a print order. I clicked into the canvas info tab and saw it was set to 72 DPI by default. Turns out I've been sending low-res files to clients for like 6 months. Nobody said anything either, so either they aren't printing them or my art is just that forgiving. Has anyone else discovered a hidden setting that wrecked their workflow?

Pro tip: check the brake lines on any 2008-2013 Ford F-150 that rolls into your bay

I was at a salvage yard near Tulsa last Thursday and noticed three different F-150s from that generation, all with rusted-out brake lines right where they run along the frame rail near the fuel tank. One of them had a line so thin you could see daylight through the corrosion. Has anyone else been seeing this on customer trucks or am I just unlucky with the junkers I find?

I spent $400 on a 'rebuilt' injector pump and got a paperweight instead

Picked up a supposedly rebuilt injector pump for my 7.3 Powerstroke off a guy on Craigslist in Des Moines, looked clean in the photos but when I bolted it on it leaked like a sieve from every seal. Turned out the thing was just painted with no actual rebuild work done, cost me a full Saturday of tearing it back off and waiting for a real one from the shop. Anyone else get burned by a fancy looking part that turned out to be junk?
