Shoutout to the guy at the Memphis print shop who told me to check font spacing at 400 percent zoom
I was prepping a 24 page program for a church banquet in Memphis and the whole thing looked fine on my screen at 100 percent. He walked over, zoomed to 400 percent on the title page, and showed me the spacing between two letters was off by what looked like a hair. I fixed it in Canva in about 30 seconds by nudging the letter spacing from 0 to -15, and when it printed, that title finally sat straight instead of looking drunk. What bugs me is how many people in here post layouts and swear they checked everything, but the problem is almost always tracking at small sizes, not the font choice itself. I know because I've now caught it on 5 different projects since March, including a flyer where the word 'Grace' had a gap you could park a truck in. Do you zoom way in to check your letter spacing, or do you just trust the default and move on?
