Overheard a guy at the supply house saying his truck camper shell costs more than my whole setup
I was grabbing some RG6 connectors yesterday at the Graybar in Tulsa and this dude in line was bragging about his $4000 camper shell. Meanwhile my van has a milk crate for a tool box and a tarp over the spools. It got me thinking about how we all spend money different. Does anyone else run a bare bones setup or am I the only one cheaping out?

The tarp and milk crate setup has its own kind of logic though. Like, you're not trying to impress anyone at the job site, you're just trying to get the work done and not have your stuff get rained on. A $4000 camper shell on a work truck seems like a lot of money to spend when you could put that into better tools or a hydraulic bender. But I guess if you're sleeping in the truck it makes more sense than a tarp.

You know, you're right about the 'not trying to impress anyone' thing. I used to look down on that tarp and milk crate setup, figured it was just being cheap. But hearing you put it that way, it makes total sense for a work truck. If you're just hauling tools and materials, who cares what the bed looks like? That extra money goes right into buying a better saw or more lumber. I guess I was just judging it on looks instead of practicality.
