Dropped $130 on a cheap ultrasonic cleaner that cooked a shutter assembly
Back in 2019 I picked up a no name ultrasonic cleaner off a marketplace listing for $130 because a guy in a Facebook group swore it was the same as the $400 units. Ran a leaf shutter from a Yashica rangefinder in it with plain tap water and a splash of dish soap, and 12 minutes later the blades came out cloudy and the timing was toast. I ended up eating the cost of a replacement shutter plus two hours of my own labor, easily $300 down the drain on a repair I quoted at $85. These days I only run metal body parts in mine and use distilled water with a proper cleaning solution. Anyone got a brand they actually trust, or am I better off just buying brass brushes and doing it by hand?
