Just found a trick for drying out a wet tent in 20 minutes

Last weekend in the Smokies my tent got soaked through and I was dreading packing it up. I hung it over a campfire (low heat, kept it moving) and it was bone dry before we broke camp. Has anyone else tried this or is that a bad idea long term?

Respectfully, hanging gear over an open flame is a fast way to melt a hole through your tent if that flame flares up. One good gust of wind and you're buying a new shelter instead of drying out a wet one. I'd stick with a clothesline in the sun or just shake it off and deal with a little moisture later.

@robert_bennett29 is right, one gust and you're shopping for a new tent, not worth the risk.
