My buddy's one comment killed my $120 tent lamp habit

I used to haul around this heavy rechargeable lantern that clipped to the tent pole. Last summer in the Smokies, my friend Matt watched me struggle to hang it for five minutes and just said, 'you know a headlamp with a red mode does that, right?' I was mad for about ten seconds until I realized he was totally right. Now I carry a small $15 headlamp and a cheap diffuser bag for ambient light. It weighs almost nothing and I stopped waking up my whole tent when I need to pee at 3 AM. Anyone else had gear that got simplified by a friend's offhand jab?
