My sleeping bag got soaked on the third night of a Colorado trip

I was camping near Buena Vista and woke up to a sudden rain leak in my tent that drenched my down bag. Had to sleep in my car with the heater on and it was miserable. Anyone have a good waterproof bag they trust for wet trips?

And then you have to spend the next morning trying to dry everything out in a Colorado wind that just laughs at your camp stove. I think I spent more time trying to get my gear dry on that trip than I actually did sleeping.

Man that really stinks, doesn't it? I had a similar thing happen in the San Juans last summer and it's just the worst. Waking up to everything wet and cold is no way to start a day, especially when you still have miles to hike. I ended up buying a synthetic bag for those trips where rain might show up, they don't pack down as small but at least they still keep you warm when wet. Hope your gear dries out okay and your next trip goes smoother.

Doesn't it seem like the stuff we depend on most always lets us down at the worst time? @milam42 hit the nail on the head, synthetic bags are the way to go when you're up against wet weather. It's just like how you always pop a tire on the day you're already running late, you know?
