The guy at the REI in Boulder who laughed at my tent setup
I was struggling to guy out my old dome tent in a windstorm near the trailhead, and this older guy walks by and just says 'you're fighting the wrong seam.' He showed me how to run the lines from the pole clips instead of the loops, and it took maybe 2 minutes to get solid. Has anyone else had a random stranger totally change how you do something basic?

Oh man, that stove story hits way too close to home. I spent a whole weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park thinking my brand new stove was just defective because it kept sputtering out. Turns out I was cranking the fuel too high and flooding the thing like an absolute rookie. The guy in the next campsite watched me struggle for way too long before finally walking over and showing me how to use the valve right. Felt like a total goober but hey, at least I learned something.

My buddy Dan had a similar thing happen up near Moab. He was trying to get his stove to light in a crosswind for like 20 minutes, getting nowhere. Some lady cooking nearby just walked over and said 'your jet is clogged from simmering too low,' then pulled a little wire out of her pack and cleaned it in five seconds flat. He said the stove roared to life and he felt like an absolute idiot for not knowing that was even a thing.
