A dock worker in Newark told me to stop using the terminal lot, and it saved me $400 and a scratched bumper
I shipped my dad's old Tacoma from Newark to Orlando last month and was about to book with a big broker until a guy named Ray at the port pulled me aside. He said brokers mark up the price and hand your car to whoever bids lowest, plus the terminal lot is where doors get dinged, so he gave me the number of a small family hauler out of Elizabeth. Direct with them came to $850 instead of the $1,250 quote, and the truck showed up two days early with zero new marks. Anyone else skip brokers and book straight with the actual carrier, or did I just get lucky with Ray?

The "terminal lot is where doors get dinged" thing sounds like a line Ray has used a hundred times to send business to his buddy's hauler. I'm not saying the guy scammed you, but a dock worker steering randoms toward a specific company is a little odd, and the $400 gap could just mean the broker quote was high to begin with. Plenty of people book direct and save money, sure, but plenty of others get burned when the small carrier has no backup truck and your rig sits for a week. You got a good result this time, that doesn't mean brokers are a scam across the board. Sometimes a deal is just a deal and there's no deeper lesson in it.
