My car came back with 2,014 extra miles and a raccoon in the back seat
I used a budget open carrier to move my sedan from Austin to Nashville and the quote said 900 miles. When it arrived, the trip meter showed 2,914 total and there was a very angry raccoon trapped in my trunk area. The driver claimed he stopped for three nights and the animal must have hopped in at a rest stop in Arkansas. I laughed so hard I almost forgot the extra 1,114 miles meant my oil change interval was blown. Has anyone else gotten a surprise passenger or mileage discrepancy after a shipping job?

The "three nights" excuse is what gets me, because three nights of stops only adds maybe a couple hundred miles of detours, not 1,114. That's an extra 371 miles per night, which is basically a full day of driving each time he supposedly parked it. So either he was running your sedan on a side job as a delivery car, or he was towing something behind it, or your car got swapped onto a different truck halfway through. Did you happen to grab a photo of the odometer when you handed it over, and did the driver sign any kind of condition report at pickup?
