Bought a $60 foam cutter, used it twice, back to exacto knives

I saw all these cool cardboard builds online with perfect curves so I grabbed a hot wire foam cutter thinking it would speed things up. Spent $60 on it last month, first cut melted the wire because I pushed too slow, second attempt left this burnt plastic smell in my garage for two days. Now I'm back to my $8 exacto and honestly the corners look cleaner. Is a pro setup really worth it or do most of you just stick to hand cutting too?

Dude same thing happened to me lol. I got one of those cheaper ones from a hobby site and my first cut literally looked like a melted mess, I was trying to do a straight line and ended up with this wavy garbage. The smell was so bad my wife made me take it outside and it still stunk up the whole patio. Plus the wire kept sagging and I had to keep resetting it, took longer than just doing it by hand. My exacto gives me way more control anyway, especially for tight corners and small details. I think those pro setups are for people who make this their whole thing, for the rest of us a sharp blade is plenty.
