From my cubicle view, networking events are OVERRATED for career growth.

Doing great work speaks louder than any business card swap.

What happens when your great work is stuck in a cubicle and nobody knows it's yours? Look, I get where @nathan_brown7 is coming from, but hard work alone is just one part of the game. I've seen people get passed over for promotions because the boss's golf buddy's kid needed a job. The guy who landed a huge project at my old company? He heard about it from a contact at a conference before it was even posted online. Your skills are the engine, but the right conversation can be the key that actually starts the car.

Totally feel that. Good work should stand on its own.

Used to believe in schmoozing my way up, but the cubicle grind proved @iris478 right. Your real work is the only business card that never gets tossed.
